The booming development of Chinese film has attracted investors from all over the world. Among the 402 feature titles produced in 2007, 39 were co-productions with nearly 20 foreign countries and regions. Those co-productions were all handled according to current international business modes and released in mainstream theaters both at home and abroad. Among the top ten box office chart of the year, seven were co-productions (Table 1). Under the current international circumstances, co-operation tents to be mutually beneficial. Those co-productions not only succeeded in the domestic market, but also the most effective and ideal mode for Chinese films to go international. Statistics shows that in 2007, 78 Chinese films were sold to international markets, among which 47 are co-productions. Apart from those commercial blockbusters, more and more low- and middle- budget Chinese movies started to take a market share in the Asian, European and North American markets. Some of them even recouped their cost and made a profit by international sales alone (Table 2). The reasons why foreign film companies choose to cooperate with China are firstly because that the Chinese government encourages such cooperation. Safe guarded by a series of policies, the domestic market environment has become more and more standardized, private film enterprises have thrived and their strength enhanced. Secondly, China boasts a complete film industry chain from policies, productions to exhibition. And its unique historical and cultural resources as well as rich and colorful natural resources make it an ideal location for film shooting. China also has world renowned film talents who appeal to both the domestic and internal audience. Besides, China’s film industry is more and more in line with international practice in terms of production ideas and operational mechanisms, which ensures a benign cooperative environment. So now is the best time for film co-production with China. Table 1:
